Refer to the Setting entry for what the Home Realm contains.

As for the Portal Room, the Caretaker has left instructions on a laminated sheet by the door on how to use the portals. They lead to the locations below.

THE RULES OF PORTALS

[personal profile] slipcaretakers 2012-11-18 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Here are some simple rules to keep track of when traveling between realms. These are listed on the instructions sheet.

1. All portals will remain open (activated on your communication device) for 24 hours. After 24 hours, portals close, leaving characters stranded behind the door. If they still have their communication device on them, they can call for help. If they don't, ELI, who is synced with every character's comm device, will search for the character's last known location, and send out a search party of Home Realm androids to fetch them.

If, for some reason, characters wish to stay in the realms longer than a day, they can tell the search party to pick them up at a later time.

2. There are a few things that are BANNED from being brought into the Home Realm. Citizens from the other realms may not pass through the portals and animals from other realms may not pass through the portals. If you are caught breaking these rules, the Caretaker will revoke your ability to use the portals for a week. If you keep doing it purposefully, the Caretaker will ban you from the Portal Room until further notice.

3. It's imperative to bring your communication device with you! In fact, it's the only way you can even open a portal in the first place! If you lose your comm device while in the realm, ELI can at least tell which realm you were trapped in.

The Wilderness Realm is what you'd expect it to be. This is the realm characters can go to see the great outdoors. The weather changes just like real-world weather and there is day and night. There are eight areas to visit, each with their own different ecosystems and animals. While most of the animals are normal enough, you may see creatures you've only read about or never heard of, at all.

On top of that, there are two factions of beings living in the Wilderness Realm. One, a group of human hunters, called the Sol Hunters, live around the area that the portal opens to. They are a friendly, lively bunch who are willing to answer any questions characters may have about animals. They are also willing to let characters ride their horses to make it easier to get across the land. The other group, a colony of beast-humanoid creatures who live off the land, called the Luna Clan, are on the far side of the realm. They are friendly enough to outsiders, but a little less willing to put up with visitors for long periods of time. They know about the lay of the land and how to survive on very little. If they are feeling particularly nice, they may lend you the use of their giant hawks. Great for flying across an area that could take weeks to fully explore.

Be mindful that it takes days on a straight path to go straight from Sol Landing, where the portal opens, to the Luna Encampment, where the Luna Clan resides.

AREA (1): SOL LANDING

[personal profile] slipcaretakers 2012-11-18 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
This is the area where the portal opens and deposits characters. They will find themselves amongst the small village of the Sol Hunters, a group of people living generation to generation by hunting animals and living off the land. They are human, friendly, and very open to visitors. Take advantage of their hospitality before venturing out into the wilderness.

They know a general amount of each area, although their expertise is with the animals. If you need a fast way to get somewhere, the stableman will be glad to lend you a horse.

AREA (2): SILVERFIN COAST

[personal profile] slipcaretakers 2012-11-18 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
To the east of Sol Landing lies Silverfin Coast, a beach area that seems to always have the perfect weather and clear waters. You'll find nothing more dangerous than a whale out in these waters, although other predators from the waters of surrounding areas may drift into the Coast once in a while.

At night, it tends to be a little cold and some days it may rain, but during the morning and afternoon, it is warm and beautiful.

AREA (3): BITTEREND SWAMP

[personal profile] slipcaretakers 2012-11-18 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
To the west of Sol Landing is a swamp filled with bogs, quicksand, and surprisingly deep waters. A few predators can be found here and there, but they, for the most part, stay in the waters. It's easy to stay out of their way and move on to your next destination.

It's said the biggest, beefiest, tastiest fish can be caught here, which is the only reason a person in their right mind would even come here.

AREA (4): CENTURION FOREST

[personal profile] slipcaretakers 2012-11-18 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Beyond the swamp and coast lies a lush forest full of trees older than time. Many different types of animals can be found here, from herbivores to omnivores. Expect many types of predators to be roaming just beyond the treeline with such a healthy selection of prey for them to feed on. A great place to camp, but be wary of your surroundings.

The days are relatively warm and breezy, but the nights can be a bit chilly. The weather is fairly regular and if you are there at the right time, you might even see snow. The forest is huge and can become a maze if you don't watch where you're going. Guides from Sol Landing will be happy to help you through the forest.

There are many hills you can scale and lakes you can take a dive in.

AREA (5): FJORD TUNDRA

[personal profile] slipcaretakers 2012-11-18 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
To the east of the forest, characters will find the bitter cold of the Fjord Tundra. Many of the animals here are incredibly tough and the only ones characters will find wandering around are predators. Other animals usually forage for food near their dens and hidey-holes. Animals tend to stay out of travelers' ways, although some of the hungrier animals may take their chances.

A great place to enjoy the snow, you know, if you're into that sort of thing. Make sure to wear plenty of layers.

AREA (6): BRUSHTAIL SAVANNA

[personal profile] slipcaretakers 2012-11-18 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Directly beyond the forest is the savanna region. It's somewhat lush at the edge of the forest and continues to dry out the further you travel. Animals will avoid travelers.

People tend to come to the savanna to scale its mountains or hills. There doesn't seem to be much else to find.

AREA (7): ASH HILLS

[personal profile] slipcaretakers 2012-11-18 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Directly west of the savanna is an extremely hot, volcanic region of Ash Hills. Normal animals are nonexistent here, although one will definitely find creatures beyond their wildest imagination. Hardly anyone braves this extremely rugged terrain or the scalding temperatures, but it's said that on the edge of Ash Hills, closer to the Luna Encampment, travelers might find hot springs at the base of the volcanoes.

AREA (8): LUNA ENCAMPMENT

[personal profile] slipcaretakers 2012-11-18 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
This is where the Luna Clan lives. It's thick with overgrowth, trees, and luscious flora, although the canopy of the trees is nowhere as high as Centurion Forest. It's a hassle to get through the area and requires dedication, but in the middle is the Luna Encampment.

The beast-humanoid creatures here are civil and friendly enough, but don't expect an invitation to stay overnight. They are willing to lend travelers the use of their hawks to fly on, if only to get you to leave.

Ever need a place to just vent frustration and kick a few people in the face while you're at it? Welcome to the War Realm, where fighting is all the citizens of the realm seem to do. The Caretaker is well aware of his residents' needs, and has provided a place to train and fight to your heart's content.

Here you will essentially play Territories, where you must protect your allies' five territories from being captured and capture your enemies' land. The battleground, combat system, and opposing sides change everyday. One day you may be hurled into the middle of WWII, the other, you may be at war with ancient clans in China. You may use a weapon if you wish, but it's not required. This is one of the few realms where use of superpowers of any kind if authorized. Go nuts. Be warned, though, to keep characters from going God Mode on the Realm, the Caretaker has put in a place a safety feature: every power the characters have, the citizens of the realm will have, too.

This is only for one round, though. When the battleground changes, so do the citizens, erasing the powers they absorbed from characters. Characters who walk in will automatically be shuffled from one side to the other. So, if two characters walk into the realm, they will be on opposing sides. The point is to have fun.

Characters can be killed temporarily here and also injured. If a character is killed during the war games, they will be revived, as good as new, when the games end. Injuries will also heal upon exit of the realm.

The Caretaker understands that you must be homesick. Everyone gets like that. To better suit you, the Caretaker has opened a portal in your home world! Maybe. You see, there's a problem with the portal; it randomly selects worlds to go to. One week you may be dealing with creatures that battle each other by command of their trainers, another you may be slaying dragons in a world where pandas talk to you.

Whatever world the portal picks will be locked in place for a week, after that, it chooses another place to open. Powers are authorized beyond this portal, although world-breaking abilities may fizz out at the most inopportune moments. In fact, many powers have a 50/50 chance of working properly or reacting in a way that's unexpected.

No one quite knows what this realm is for. When asked, the Caretaker will reply with "Fatal Error: Administrator contacted." Characters who are rejected from the program will disappear through this portal unwillingly. If characters who are still considered accepted in the experiment try to cross through this portal to get home, all they will find beyond it is a broken down city. Dark creatures of supernatural origin are said to roam the remains of what was once a grand place. It's unadvised that characters roam this realm, at all.

Powers will work in this realm, but so will the ability to cause death and injury. It's unclear if characters will be revived or healed when they try to exit.

Exactly what it says on the tin: this is a grand, sleek, bustling city. During the day, you can shop for anything you may want here and transport it back to the Home Realm. During the night, it becomes the hot spot for night life of all kinds.

To purchase things here, simply swipe your communication device. Something very complicated with barcodes and circuitry activates, allowing you to buy the item in question. Best not to ask about it.
